SOUTHERN TIER NOSTALGIA

A  glimpse of Main Street in Salamanca from years gone by, as shared by the Salamanca Area Historical Society.

Bright awnings line the storefronts, and the Nies Building stands out on the left with its second- and third-floor balconies.

On the right, a sign for the “Empire Store — Clothes for Men, Women, and Children” marks what was, according to the 1914 city directory, the Empire Clothing Company at 58 Main Street, owned by Louis Kohn.

The address would go on to house several other businesses over the years, including the Larkin Economy Store, O’Rourke Furniture Company, and City Carpet and Linoleum.

LOCAL HEROES!

Nearly 500 pounds of food, essential items collected thanks to our generous community

The Olean Rotary Club shared on Facebook, that it, Operation Warm Hearts Inc., and the Zonta Club of Olean partnered for a two-week, community-wide food drive, delivering the first round of donations to the Olean Food Pantry and The Salvation Army of Olean.

Drop-off partners — the Olean YMCA, Olean Public Library, Parent Education Program, and Lindsey Vossler Massage — made contributions easy and accessible.

Together, our community showed once again that meaningful change happens when we unite for a common cause!
